Fenugreek seed is a small yellow mustard coloured seed which has a tangy, bitter flavour.
Best prepared by dry roasting the seeds in a pan without any oil until they brown slightly.
As they are very hard grinding into a powder will take a strong pestle and mortar or they can be easily ground in a coffee or spice grinder. We also sell this grounded to make using this spice easier.
An ingredient of Panch Phoran Fenugreek seeds is often used in Tadka or Vagar, a method of tempering the spices in ghee to release their properties and flavours.
This is added to a dish either at the beginning or at the end as a finishing touch.
In Ayurveda, Fenugreek is a beneficial remedy for bad breath, bloating, sore throat and skin ailments such as eczema, acne and dandruff.
