Our CMC powder (carboxymethyl cellulose) is often used in cake decorating. Indigo mixed with water alone is thin and can drip down the neck and face; a small amount of CMC makes a paste that holds in place and spreads easily from roots to tips.

Use 2g of CMC powder for every 100g of indigo. Stir it into the dry powder first, as it can form lumps if sprinkled straight into water, then add warm water a little at a time. Leave for a few minutes to thicken and apply straight away, as indigo loses strength soon after mixing. It also works in a runny henna and indigo blend. See our indigo powder for hair.
