Indian henna powder from Rajasthan

Rajasthani Raj henna is prized by artists for its stringy paste, which flows smoothly from a cone for fine lines. Our Indian henna powder is body art quality, finely sifted and has a lawsone content of 2.94% for deep, long-lasting stains.

It is also excellent for natural red hair colour, or mixed with indigo and amla for brunette and black shades.

Two grades

Indian Henna Powder: our everyday Raj henna, available from 100g up to 5kg.
Super Sift Indian Raj: Indian Raj henna sifted nine times for the finest bridal lines, in 100g sealed pouches.

Why Raj henna?

Henna from Rajasthan has a long tradition in mehndi. Its fine, stringy texture lets you pull long, unbroken lines, and a good lawsone level gives a stain that starts bright orange and deepens to reddish brown over 24 to 48 hours.

How to mix

Add lemon juice or water a little at a time until the paste is like thick yoghurt, then stir in a skin-safe essential oil: as a guide, 30ml for every 100g of powder. Cover and leave for dye release, usually 6 to 12 hours. For body art, strain the paste before filling your cones. Read our full guide on how to mix henna powder.

Body art or hair?

For body art, leave the paste on clean skin for at least 4 to 6 hours, or overnight, then scrape it off. For hair, apply to clean, dry hair, cover and leave for 2 to 4 hours before rinsing with water. Henna is permanent on hair, so always do a strand test first.

Storage

Keep Indian henna powder sealed in a cool, dark place, or in the freezer for longer storage, and freeze any mixed paste you are not using straight away. Looking for something different? Compare Sojat and organic henna.
