Jagua body art supplies

Jagua comes from the fruit of the Genipa americana tree and gives a natural blue-black stain that looks like a real tattoo. It is a natural alternative to so-called 'black henna', which can contain harmful PPD.

Gel, paste or powder?

Gel is the classic choice for bold designs. Our paste is creamier and flows more like henna, so many henna artists find it easier for fine detail. Powder is the most economical way to make your own gel. Our premix already contains xanthan gum, so you just add 50ml of water and 3ml of essential oil for every 10g. For raw powder, add 3g of xanthan gum, 3ml of essential oil and 50ml of water for every 10g.

Before you apply

Apply jagua to clean, dry skin with no lotion or oil, using a cone or applicator bottle. Do not mix jagua with lemon juice, which can weaken the result. Leave the gel on for about 1 to 2 hours, or until dry, then wipe it off gently.

How jagua body art develops

Jagua looks faint when you remove it, then darkens to blue-black over 48 to 72 hours, and usually lasts one to two weeks. Apply designs two to three days before an event, and always do a patch test first. Fresh gel and paste are best sent by next-day delivery and kept in the freezer until needed.
