Castile soaps made from plant oils

Castile soap is made from plant oils rather than animal fats or synthetic detergents. Ours uses sunflower oil for a mild wash and coconut oil to help it lather, with no sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) or sodium laureth sulphate (SLES).

The range

Plain natural liquid soap: 250ml of castile soap for hair, body, shaving and hands. Unscented, or scented with fine essential and attar oils.
Neem shampoo: neem oil, sweet almond oil and sandalwood in a castile soap base, free from SLS and parabens. 100ml and 250ml.
Natural hand wash: 150ml pump bottles and 500ml refills, in rosemary and red thyme, juniper berry, or bergamot and coriander.

Ways to use natural liquid soap

Body wash: a little goes a long way on a wet flannel or sponge.
Hair: a gentle, SLS-free wash, especially for hair coloured with henna.
Shaving: lather on wet skin for a smooth glide.
Hands: decant into a pump bottle by the sink.

Washing hair with castile soap

Castile soap lathers less than shampoos made with SLS, so you may need a little more at first, and some people find their hair needs time to adjust. A diluted apple cider vinegar rinse afterwards can help leave hair smooth and shiny. Before henna, wash with a simple shampoo and no conditioner, and after colouring wait a day or two before shampooing.

Less plastic

Keep your hand wash pump bottle and top it up from a 500ml refill, which fills it more than three times.

Good to know

Avoid contact with the eyes. Plant-based soaps can thicken slightly when cold, so shake gently before use, and store bottles closed and away from direct sunlight. The unscented natural liquid soap is a good choice for sensitive skin, for children, or for adding your own essential oils. For more, see our natural body and skin care range.
