Niaouli essential oil for henna

Henna Boy essential oils are chosen for the way they work with henna. Added to your paste, niaouli essential oil gives a pleasant scent and helps the henna release its dye, for a richer and darker stain. Niaouli comes from the same family as cajeput.

How to use

Add it to your henna or jagua mix, following the instructions supplied with your powder or kit. As a guide, we use 30ml of essential oil for every 100g of henna powder.

  1. Mix your henna powder with lemon juice or water.
  2. Stir in the niaouli essential oil until it is evenly blended.
  3. Cover the paste and leave it for dye release, then fill your cones.

Why choose niaouli essential oil?

Niaouli has a fresh, slightly sweet scent that many people find softer than tea tree. Like cajeput, it is a popular choice for henna artists who want a good stain with a clean, pleasant smell, and it works well on its own or blended with lavender.

Safety

  • Always dilute essential oils in your paste: never apply them neat to the skin.
  • Do a patch test before using a new oil, especially on sensitive skin.
  • Keep out of reach of children and away from the eyes.

Storage

Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dark place, away from heat and sunlight, so your niaouli essential oil keeps its scent for longer.

Niaouli, cajeput or lavender?

All three are popular with henna artists. Lavender has a soft floral scent and is the gentlest choice for most people. Cajeput and niaouli are fresher and more camphor-like, and many artists keep one of each so they can match the oil to the client. Whichever you choose, use the same amount in your paste and give it the same time for dye release.
