Tea tree essential oil for henna

Henna Boy essential oils are chosen for the way they work with henna. Added to your paste, tea tree essential oil gives a pleasant scent and helps the henna release its dye, for a richer and darker stain.

Our tea tree is pure Melaleuca alternifolia, with a fresh, clean, herbal scent. It is a close relative of cajeput.

Why add essential oil to henna?

Oils high in monoterpene alcohols, such as tea tree, cajeput and lavender, help the dye in henna bind to the skin. The result is a darker stain than a paste mixed with lemon juice or water alone.

How to use

Add the oil to your henna or jagua mix, following the instructions supplied with your powder or kit. As a guide, use 30ml of tea tree essential oil for every 100g of henna powder. Stir it in when you add your lemon juice or water, then leave the paste for dye release.

Using it with jagua

Essential oil is also used in jagua gel. For every 10g of raw jagua powder, add 3ml of essential oil along with 3g of xanthan gum and 50ml of water.

Tea tree, cajeput or lavender?

All three give excellent results. Tea tree and cajeput have fresher, more herbal scents, while lavender is softer and sweeter. Many artists keep more than one oil and choose according to their clients' preferences.

Good to know

  • Always do a patch test, and do not apply essential oils undiluted to the skin.
  • Keep away from the eyes. Do not swallow. Keep out of reach of children.

Storage

Keep the bottle tightly closed, upright and away from heat and sunlight to protect the oil.

Sizes

Available in several sizes, starting from a 10ml bottle. If you mix henna regularly, the larger bottles of tea tree essential oil are the better value.

Ingredients

Tea Tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia).
