Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) for mixing henna and jagua paste, for a richer, darker stain.
Lavender essential oil for henna
Henna Boy essential oils are chosen for the way they work with henna. Added to your paste, lavender essential oil gives a pleasant scent and helps the henna release its dye, for a richer and darker stain. Lavender is also lovely for general use.
Our lavender is pure Lavandula angustifolia, often called true lavender, with a soft floral scent that most people find pleasant and easy to work with.
Why add essential oil to henna?
Oils high in monoterpene alcohols, such as lavender and cajeput, help the dye in henna bind to the skin. The result is a darker stain than a paste mixed with lemon juice or water alone.
How to use
Add the oil to your henna or jagua mix, following the instructions supplied with your powder or kit. As a guide, use 30ml of lavender essential oil for every 100g of henna powder. Stir it in when you add your lemon juice or water, then leave the paste for dye release.
Good to know
- Lavender is one of the gentlest oils for henna, so it is a good choice for beginners and for clients with sensitive skin.
- Always do a patch test, and do not apply essential oils undiluted to the skin.
- Do not swallow. Keep out of reach of children.
Lavender or cajeput?
Both give excellent results. Lavender has a softer, sweeter scent, while cajeput is fresher and more medicinal. Many artists keep both, using lavender for clients who prefer a gentle fragrance and cajeput when they want the strongest possible stain.
Storage
Keep the bottle tightly closed, upright and away from heat and sunlight to protect the oil.
